Elements of Fashion; Line

Project 2 increased my awareness of the element line in apparel and non apparel products. Before this project i hadn't really ever looked at the appearance of different types of lines in nature and other resources and related them back to aspects of fashion. As of now, being an aspiring designer i now know to look into all areas of art for inspiration.

The zigzag is a type of line that looks like it has been broken in several different places but is yet still in tact. The zigzag can be utilized to create some very interesting pieces of furniture and incorporated in apparel to give it an unusal look . The nonapparel pieces seem a little more striking than the apparel pieces.

Zebra stripes are such an attractive pattern. The way the lines cross over the animal and not cross is an amazing sight. The zebra print can be found in many areas of apparel and non apparel items. It also appeals to customers young and old.

Fish scales may not seem to the most fashionable thing to desire to wear but designers have taken the line of elements and created some very trendy items. Fish scales are placed very closely together and the create the look of an implied line when lyin on a fish's body.

Plaid is a set of lines that are often stigmatized in the fashion world as geeky or not particularly cool but the lines in these patterns are all the rage.

Marble is a natural stone which has lines spread throughout it. Marbel is a precious stone and many people value it. One of the non apparel images is a bookcase designed around the markings in a piece of marble. The sweater and dress are a high fashion esemble.

When looking out in nature to find the element of line it can be seen in the smallest places. The black and yellow stripes of a bumble bee are very iconic to the insect and they seldomly make their way into the fashion scence.

Inspiration, Motivation, Revelation

As a design major I am deeply concentrated in the menswear aspect of design. I have always had a desire to be a part of the fashion industry but when I found my passion everything else seemed to start falling in place. I am greatly inspired by the powerhouses in menswear fashions such as Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. I consider this duo to be my fathers of fashion design. I usually read the most current menswear magazines and Details tends to be my favorite one. Its really more fashion based than many other magazines I read. When I read Details I tend to become very motivated to try new things in regards to both changing my wardrobe and enhancing my lifestyle. Color is also a big aspect of the things I tend to design and create. I consider myself to be a color oriented person and I always go the extra mile to achieve a certain look when it comes to using unusal colors and coordinating them.
